# GenTV

> GenTV is a free, open-source (MIT), ad-free home screen (launcher) for Android TV and Google TV, with a companion app for Android phones. From the phone you can install GenTV on the TV, clean up preinstalled apps, clear storage, restore changes, and use the phone as a remote and keyboard. No computer, root access or account is needed.

Key facts:

- TV app: package `com.gentv.tv`, version 3.7.0, Android 8.0 (API 26) or later, under 600 KB.
- Phone app: GenTV Remote, package `com.gentv.mobile`, version 3.7.1, Android 8.0 or later. Android only; there is no iPhone app.
- Installing GenTV does not change the TV's default Home; the user chooses that in the TV's settings.
- GenTV cannot remove boot ads played by TV firmware. Optional Private DNS filtering on supported Android 9+ TVs can reduce some ad and tracker requests.
- Samsung Tizen, LG webOS and Hisense VIDAA are not Android and cannot run GenTV.
- The phone app includes community cleanup references for 252 TV, box and projector models from 74 brands. They are references, not compatibility certification.
